OUR HISTORY.
Mission Statement.
To act as a professional body
To achieve superior sustainable employment conditions through consultation, trust, and the sharing of knowledge
The IAGSA has its origins in NZI Insurance. Following several months of consultations with employees from all levels of NZI Insurance Limited who were disenchanted with the way the unions in New Zealand were operating at that time and in response to the Employment Contracts Act 1991, the NZI Insurance Staff Association Incorporated (The NZIISA) was established in October 1991. Our original mission statement has stood the test of time and is still relevant in today’s business world.
Over the years the Staff Association evolved with the changes within NZI Insurance Limited to become a union of strength with a membership of over 500, covering all levels of staff employed in NZI Insurance.
The NZIISA was registered as a union in compliance with the Employment Relations Act 2000 in October 2000. The NZIISA had to register as a union to exist under the employment relations Act 2000 and continue to support the members in the way that they had become accustomed.
In July 2004, the members of the NZIISA voted to change the name of the union to the IAG NZ Staff Association Incorporated. The change of name was felt to be appropriate as NZI New Zealand Limited had been purchased by IAG NZ Limited, and the name change would give the union a stronger identity and platform to build on in the future.
Since this time, the IAGSA has evolved into the largest union in IAG New Zealand limited.
Because the IAGSA is exclusive to employees of IAG NZ Limited, the IAGSA has been able to concentrate its energies on improving employment conditions and supporting its members.
Today the IAGSA has evolved into the largest union in IAG New Zealand Limited and has a Collective Agreement which covers employees across all brands that come under the IAG umbrella i.e.: NZI, State, AMI, Lumley, Lantern Insurance, SWANN and NAC.
The IAG NZ Staff Association Incorporated (The IAGSA) is registered with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
